Random thinking

Good evening everyone. Thanks to you if you actually clicked in and read this post.
Because it's a little late, and I don't have the extra brain cells to burn for a WWYD.
However, as a habit, I have to post something regardless.
Maybe today I would like to talk about my understanding of the balance between skill and randomness from mahjong.
As we may all experienced: a more experienced player is not guaranteed to win a game, and vice versa, a beginner is not guaranteed to lose. However, stronger players have their average standing overtime high. We can use the mean of the standing of all games played, and their performance will be regressing to the mean.
During a normal rank play, players usually don't play more than 10 hanchans, and I think it's fair to say, the weight of luck is inversely correlating with the number of games people play during a game.
For me, participating in a tournament will always yield a result of around the average line which is quite funny. It sometimes makes me think, if it is my playstyle that shapes it that way?
Am I too afraid to try to fly because I don't want to hit the ground hard?
