Balance NAGA choose 4P
Balance NAGA choose 4P

After tossing one row of terminal tiles, this hand becomes a pretty 1-shanten. For some reason I chose to toss 5p. Now that I'm reviewing it, I recognize this 5p cut as one of the worst cut in this game. The reasons why cutting 5p is bad, is because it cut us out from the perfect 1-shanten, which I shamefully failed to notice here. Once we got the 5s, we have two complete menzu (345s, 678s), we have the 78s and 667m as the two ryanmens with a pair, and we definitely trim the worst ryanmen 45p to be 5p. This discard is no doubt a bad one.

Both Balance NAGA and defensive NAGA mawashi on the suji 7m.
Both Balance NAGA and defensive NAGA mawashi on the suji 7m.

Facing the riichi, I chose to bail with 7s, which make our hand into 2shanten, since the 9p draw is way too dangerous and 7s is the suji for the riichi tile, and given that dealer just chi-ed, I would assume they are going to fight with this riichi player, so I choose to bail here. I think NAGA's decision here is because it sees the value in our hand -- if we riichi it has the potential to be a riichi + pinfu + iipeikou + tanyao mangan hand.

I need to train my gut to push more with a potentially mangan hand, especially in this Akanashi ruleset.
